1. Create the data management and governance plan 

You need to create the data management and governance plan. The plan needs to detail 

• People, Technology and Processes 
• Ownership, knowledge, accessibility, security, and quality of data 

• Data standards validation 
• Details about data being migrated such as legacy IDs mapped to data IDs 

2. Determining and streamlining the project management plan 

It is required to determine the scope of the migration project along with mapping the phases of the project and deciding about on-boarding methods, requirements from teams involved in the project and so on. It includes

• Kickoff meetings 
• Coordination etc 

3. Undertake Migration Requirement Analysis

4. Identify and organize the data to be migrated 

You cannot migrate data unless and until you ensure data quality. Your data is passed through rigorous vetting to identify the quality of data. With pick lists and validation rules ensure that quality data id produced, mapped, and organized. 

5. Create and populate your template and create the destination orgs 

Create and populate the template and use it again for migration. You also need to ensure that the destination org is compatible to accept the data. 

6. Initiate a pilot project  

Salesforce CRM ecosystem may not be compatible for data access from other systems. So, you need to customize your applications, make necessary configuration changes along with detailing out the technical and functional designs. Even after that it is better to test migration with a pilot project. Enable the settings in the Salesforce CRM to transform legacy data into Salesforce CRM database. From there you extract the trends of data and identify the purchase behavior. List the lookups, the external key, and the records count 

7. Monitor your integrations 

Constant monitoring of your integrations is required to ensure that the data confirms the standard 

8. Set the system for migration 

• Create the data pipelines with steps that check and cleanse data 
• Enable alerting for big data 
• Use the salesforce API for automating movement of data between the apps  
• Conduct system testing and user testing 

• Enable the setting and configurations for data extraction 
• Add and set user access permissions 
• Customize salesforce page layouts and create custom field 

9. Migrate your data 

Conduct the data migration and test whether the migration has been successful in entirety
